Google beats Bing any day
Which is the better search engine
The question has long been asked what the best search engine is. The main search engines used by the world are Google and Bing, intense rivals. The better of the two is Google.
One of the main points used to determine which is better is obviously speed. Unfortunately, Bing does not tell its users the speed the search engine found its results in. Google, though, searches on average in about .2 seconds.
Another factor is the number of results the search engine finds for you. On average, Google fetches its users about 11,750,000,000 websites, while Bing only gets 1,133,605,660 on average. A vast difference, Google wins this hands down.
One thing going for Bing, however, is the number of search suggestions. While searching, a pop-down menu will appear on both sites giving you suggestions based on popular searches. Google gives 4 suggestions. Fair, but Bing doubles that, giving you 8 suggestions based on what you seem to be searching. That may not seem like much, but having more suggestions can save you from typing as much to find what you want.
Something lots of people notice is how both homepages change. Bing gives hundreds of different backgrounds, which are very cool. These pictures, though, are all random, and have nothing to do with current events. Google changes its homepage whenever there is a special event of any kind, even during the Olympics, letting you play some of the games on your own computer.
One more point to this is Black-Out Day. On Aug. 14, 2012, the internet got together to protest against a bill that might have been passed. This bill would severely damage free information over the internet. While Wikipedia, one of the major people completely wiping out their website for a day, Google was also involved. Without shutting down, Google made sure to change their homepage accordingly. Bing? No change. They did not give any contribution like Google did, another area that Google wins in.
Though many may not now, Microsoft is the creator of both Bing and Internet Explorer, so they are connected. Google created Google Chrome, of course. Looking at rise in internet usage, Google Chrome stole Internet Explorer’s fans away from them. Now, about 45% of people use Google Chrome as their web browser. Internet Explorer only has 16% of people using them, the rest of the population using Firefox or other web browsers. A crushing blow, Google wins again.
Freshman Cliff Hoye has conducted research on Google, and has also looked at how Google compares against Bing.
“I prefer Google…Google is faster than Bing and gives better results.” said Hoye.
Hoye has always thought that Google is better, but by researching the subject, he knows that he was right.
A website named bingiton.com was dedicated to getting more fans back to Bing, an effort that did not work, and even backfired in some cases. When using this website, they show Google and Bing side by side and let users choose in a blind test which format and search results they like more. With some testing, Google was chosen four out of every 5 showings, proving Google is better once again.
One final point is a thing called cookies. Cookies track where users go, trying to make ads appear on the page that would work better on them than other ads. Cookies are also used for remembering passwords and other various things. Google only has four cookies, and most of these are Google trying to remember your password if you would like Google to do so on gmail.
Bing has a whopping 13 cookies, most of which are NOT for Bing to help you remember your email password. Bing’s cookies are mostly random websites trying to track your web searches and internet movement.
So, the debate is settled. Google is better than Bing in almost every way. Go ahead and use bingiton.com and see which search engine you prefer.
